Brazilian football digest: August

It was quite a month for Atlético Paranaense. Having returned to the top flight after a year in the doldrums, the Hurricanes were probably not expecting to be in the title race at the midway point of the season. But there they are after a stupidly, implausibly good August.

  1. Atlético Paranaense have been so successful in part thanks to them having had a proper preseason, having declined to take part in this year's State Championship. Given how successful they have been, other clubs are bound to follow suit, hopefully pushing through the reforms that Brazilian football has needed for years
