Menezes Names Squad for Germany Friendly

Mano Menezes has named his Brazil squad ahead of the friendly match against Germany, which takes place in Stuttgart on the 10th of August. Corinthians midfielder Ralf, who has been excellent so far this season, has been included in the seleção for the first time, and were are also call-ups for Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo and Vasco centreback Dedé.

Corinthians midfielder Ralf has been rewarded for his impressive club form.

The full squad is as follows;

Júlio César (Internazionale)
Victor (Grêmio)

Maicon (Internazionale)
Daniel Alves (Barcelona)
André Santos (Fenerbahçe)
Luiz Gustavo (Bayern Munich)

Thiago Silva (Milan)
Lúcio (Internazionale)
David Luiz (Chelsea)
Dedé (Vasco da Gama)

Lucas Leiva (Liverpool)
Ramires (Chelsea)
Elias (Atlético Madrid)
Ralf (Corinthians)
Fernandinho (Shakhtar Donetsk)
Renato Augusto (Bayer Leverkusen)
Paulo Henrique Ganso (Santos)
Lucas (São Paulo)

Neymar (Santos)
Robinho (Milan)
Alexandre Pato (Milan)
Fred (Fluminense)
Jonas (Valencia)

A number of players, then, have been left out in the wake of the Copa América. Barcelona leftback Adriano will likely feel aggrieved at not being handed a chance in the side, whilst Elano, Jádson, and Luisão have also been jettisoned. Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro, meanwhile, misses out through injury. There are recalls for Valencia striker Jonas, and for midfield pair Renato Augusto and Fernandinho, and Fred retains his place among the strikers. Disappointingly (and I'm really trying not to sound like a broken record here), the likes of Hernanes, Hulk, and Marcelo continue to be overlooked by Menezes.

  1. Does Mano has problem with
    these three players viz Hulk,
    Marcelo, Hernanes? Why didn't
    he (Mano) even send Renato
    Augusto to the Copa? Seriously
Teixeira and his CBF should sack
    him already

  2. Is there a reason that Mano continues to not call them up? or Nilmar and Kaka for that matter? or is it simply his stubbornness? Ugh, the Germany game has all the potential of being incredibly embarrassing. Our ineffective attacking system under Mano, against an amazing counter attacking German team with Schweinsteiger, Ozil, Gomez, and Neuer.

  3. Usherr, Menezes has implied that he learned that Marcelo had faked injury to get out of a cap, so in his case we know why his unlikely to sshow up at all as long as Menezes is the coach.

  4. Usherr; I'm not aware of any personal problems that Mano has with Hulk and Hernanes... perhaps the red card against France is still counting against the latter, which would be ridiculous.

And Filipe is quite right about Marcelo... Menezes wanted him to report to the national team staff when he pulled out of the squad, but Marcelo refused to do so. Menezes later hinted at the situation, saying that players need to put their country above all else.

BlueLondoner; I think stubbornness is exactly what it is. True, there's only limited space in the squad, but players like those I've mentioned (plus Leandro Damião, Nilmar etc) are better than some of the players Menezes continues to pick... Jonas and Elias for starters.

  5. His stubbornness is forgivable if you do well but if not the CBF should tell him to sack him or tell him to pick the best players. I would like too see Danilo instead of Ramires or preferablly Elias.

  6. Filipe; The injury which Mano said Marcelo had faked, Real Madrid proved was a true injury, and backed it up with medical records. His continued refusal to call up one of the top three or four left backs is astounding.

SKP; At first I thought Mano simply wanted to dispel all traces of Dunga's regime, but I don't know anymore. His substitutions at the end of the Paraguay game made it so I don't believe he has the tactical acumen necessary to lead us to a decent showing in 2014.
